2018 Dennis H. May Conference on Diversity Issues and the Role of Counseling Centers

The 2018 Dennis H. May Conference on Diversity Issues and the Role of Counseling Centers will be held September 23-24 at the Illini Union. This year's theme is, “Navigating the Landscape of Diversity in the Current Political Climate: Considerations for Working with Native Populations.” The overarching theme promotes an understanding of how political climate can oppress, marginalize and evoke trauma responses.

We are excited to announce that our keynote speaker is Dr. Annie Belcourt, Associate Professor in Health Professions and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Montana. The keynote address will attend to systemically enhancing the lived experience and psychological health of native populations by focusing on decreasing institutional barriers.  This is particularly important at Illinois as we move forward from a history of using native imagery as a mascot. We hope you can join us in Champaign-Urbana for this year's conference!

The Illini Union is acessible, and a map of acessibility features can be found here. If you need other accommodation or have questions, please contact conference planning co-chairs Nichole Evans or Felicia Li.
