It is imperative that counseling centers go beyond stating their commitment to diversity. Students from marginalized communities need to experience the demonstrative actions these statements represent to serve as a corrective experience. This presentation will convey information about the inception of a social justice committee within the Wake Forest University Counseling Center aimed at developing communication strategies addressing instances of hate or injustice that impact community mental health and promoting baseline training/education for all staff to increase personal awareness of bias. The goal of this presentation is to provide participants with actionable steps to consider for initiating a social justice committee in their centers.
